I am a registered “integrative” psychotherapist. This means that I am trained in a variety of different methods, from psychoanalysis to cognitive behavioural therapy: with many other theories informing my practice as well. Over the years, I have achieved my own integration of these theories and practices, that I believe make me an effective psychotherapist.
The heart of the way I work is to identify the client’s needs, and then utilise my practical and theoretical knowledge to inform my work with them. I am, no doubt, guided by working models that are informed by theory (namely, contemporary relational psychoanalysis and versions of cognitive/analytic therapy). I have come to learn, however, that models work only in the abstract, and it is only from getting to know the client’s material, that I can develop a practice specific to the client that works.
I have been practicing for more than a decade now and have confidence in my methods. If I assess that my methods are not appropriate for you, I will endeavour to refer you to someone more appropriate. If you are interested in a more detailed explanation of my work, please see the attached PDF.
